For the first eight of those years, he worked for the U.S. government. There he handled a wide range of significant and complex cases, including defending Robert Bork's firing of Archibald Cox during the Watergate affair. In private practice he has represented clients in a number of cases involving complex financial issues and multiple jurisdictions. He has also represented numerous individuals in cases less complex, though no less important to the clients involved.
Mr. Battocchi has briefed and argued dozens of appeals, and presented oral arguments before the United States Supreme Court, all 13 federal circuit courts, the Virginia Supreme Court, the Virginia Court of Appeals, and the D.C. Court of Appeals.
